Been there. Done that. Never again.

This time, I wanted a portfolio site that actually felt like me, minimal, elegant, focused entirely on the art. No clutter, no distractions, no code.

After a lot of research, I found the one tool that made it all possible: Spectra.

As an illustrator, I’m super picky about aesthetics. I wanted my website to feel like a quiet gallery with soft colors, lots of white space, and layouts that breathe.

I had already built a site before using a popular framework (won’t name names), but it was a nightmare.

With just a few clicks, I had a homepage that looked professionally designed. I added a “Let’s Connect” CTA section. I dropped in a clean footer. I styled my About page in sections that were way more engaging than the typical long-scroll text wall.

And the best part? I didn’t have to touch CSS or even look at a piece of code.

There were so many thoughtful touches in Spectra that made this experience smooth from start to finish.

A few of my favourites:

• Maintenance mode – I could quietly build behind the scenes without needing a separate plugin
• Google Fonts hosted locally – Huge win for GDPR compliance in the EU
• Blazing fast performance – My site was indexed by Google almost immediately and score in the green in all page tests!
• Perfect Gutenberg integration – No weird conflicts, no janky drag-and-drop, just… it works.

This was honestly the first time I felt in control of my website. Not because I learned how to code, but because I finally had tools designed for someone like me.

I’m a creative person who cares deeply about design, but doesn’t want to touch backend code at midnight just to fix a layout.
